The Kremlin said on Friday that a purported Ukrainian air strike on a fuel depot in western Russia will hinder future peace talks.
“Of course, this is not something that can be perceived as creating comfortable conditions for the continuation of negotiations,” Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesman, told reporters.
Peskov said authorities were doing everything to reorganize the fuel supply chain and avoid disruption of energy supplies in Belgorod.
His comments came after Russia accused Ukraine of striking the fuel depot in Belgorod, which if true would mark a significant escalation of the war since it broke out in February.
Video images of the purported attack posted online showed what looked like several missiles being fired from two helicopters flying at low altitude, followed by an explosion. Reuters has not yet been able to verify the images.
