Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday that Moscow will insist on the resumption of full implementation of the Iran nuclear deal and on lifting sanctions off the Islamic Republic.
“On November 29, it is planned to resume talks of the signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on settling the situation around the Iranian nuclear program. We will insist on implementing the agreements reached under this document in 2015, on their full implementation,” he told reporters after negotiations with French diplomats in Paris, according to TASS.
“It means that the United States should resume the implementation of its commitments, including lift all the sanctions imposed in the context of the JCPOA,” Lavrov stressed, referring to the official name of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).
“Here, we have prospects for more constructive cooperation,” he added.
Meanwhile, Lavrov pledged that Moscow will take asymmetric retaliatory steps in response to any unfriendly actions by Western countries.
“We reaffirmed our intention to continue to show an exceptionally restrained approach, not to create problems artificially, but we will, of course, react to the unfriendly steps that the West is taking”, Lavrov said. “We will act in a reciprocal manner, and if necessary, also asymmetrically”.
Lavrov also noted that NATO has been acting “aggressively” towards Russia lately, specifically referring to the alliance’s recent naval build-up in the Black Sea.
