Deputy Chief of Hezbollah’s Executive Council Sheikh Ali Daamoush said Lebanon has been subjected to an “unjust and unacceptable” campaign by “those who claim to be brothers”.
In remarks carried by Al-Manar on Friday, Sheikh Daamoush commented on the Saudi campaign launched against Lebanon in response to remarks made by Lebanese Information Miniter George Kordahi on the war in Yemen
“Information minister’s remarks are just pretext… Saudi Arabia mobilized Gulf states, politicians and several media outlets to take part in the campaign against Lebanon. They (Saudis) flagrantly want to oppress Lebanon and to violate the Lebanese sovereignty and national dignity.”
He stressed that the Saudi escalation is unjustified, noting that the real causes behind the current crisis “are related to the tense situation of the Saudi crown prince on several levels.”
In this context, Sheikh Daamoush said that the main aim of Saudi is to weaken the Resistance in Lebanon, assuring that such scheme won’t work.
“The Resistance’s role is national one and no one can undermine this role. You (Saudis and their allies) have tried in the past to undermine the Resistance but you failed and the Resistance’s power has grown.”
Saudi Arabia has been leading attempts to press Lebanese government to resign over remarks made by Kordahi on the Saudi-led war on Yemen.
In an Al Jazeera-affiliated youth show last August, Kordahi was asked the difference between the Lebanese Resistance group Hezbollah and the Yemeni Houthis. The information minister said Houthis defending themselves against Saudi and Emirati aggression on their country.
Kordahi defended his comments, saying he voiced his personal views before being appointed as an information minister.
