Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Sunday that he discussed the situation in Afghanistan in the meeting with Japanese counterpart.
“Pleased to host Japanese FM Motegi in Tehran on Sunday,” Zarif wrote in a tweet.
“In what is probably my last meeting with a counterpart as Iran’s foreign minister, we discussed strengthening bilateral relations, how to resuscitate the JCPOA and the catastrophic US-engineered situation in Afghanistan,” added the tweet.
Zarif is leaving office in a matter of a few days, as the Parliament is going to hold a confidence vote for ministers nominated by newly elected President Ebrahim Raisi this week.
Japanese Foreign Minister also met with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani on Sunday in Tehran.
Motegi had arrived at Tehran early on Sunday to meet Iranian officials on bilateral and international issues.
