Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Wednesday that the United States and NATO “have clear obligation to compensate” for invading and occupying Afghanistan.
Zarif wrote in a Twitter message on Wednesday, “For all their talk of democracy & War on Terror, events in Afghanistan & statements by US & NATO officials prove: They invaded & occupied Afghanistan & elsewhere ONLY to pursue their own interests—but couldn’t even achieve that.”
Referring to the two-decade-long occupation of Afghanistan by the US and NATO, Zarif added, “US/NATO now have clear obligation to compensate.”
Based on a peace agreement between Taliban and Washington signed in February, the US and its allies withdrew from Afghanistan in the recent weeks after two decades of occupation.
Following the pullout, Taliban group managed to take control of almost the entire country, including Kabul, the capital.
