Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have been invited to the summit on climate change organized by the United States online in April, US President Joe Biden told reporters on Friday, according to the White House’s press corps.
The US president said he has not yet talked with the two leaders “but they know they are invited.”.
The start of the summit on April 22 coincides with Earth Day, and will come ahead of a major UN meeting on climate change scheduled for November in Glasgow, Scotland.
Biden kept his campaign pledge to rejoin the Paris climate agreement on his first day in the White House, after former President Donald Trump pulled out of the deal.
Overall, Washington invited 40 world leaders to attend the two-day meeting.
