The “Free Patriotic Movement” political body held its periodic meeting today, chaired by its Chief, MP Gebran Bassil, following which an issued statement called on “the caretaker government to implement a relief program supported by international institutions based on securing medical supplies on one hand, along with securing various sources of vaccines, in sufficient quantities to ensure community immunity, and to secure subsistence benefits on the other hand, to enhance society’s capabilities to bear the economic consequences of the general closure.”
The FPM polite-bureau statement discussed the issue of the investigation that the Swiss Public Prosecutor had opened into the accounts of the Central Bank Governor, stressing the necessity to reveal the truth in this file.
The Political Council also affirmed that “the existing obstruction to preventing the forensic audit of the Central Bank’s accounts holds its owners responsible for committing the crime that occurred against the Lebanese.”
Moreover, the statement condemned the attacks on the President of the Republic by a “group of idiots” in politics and the media, warning them that justice would hold them accountable.
On the anniversary of the signing of the Mar Mikhael Understanding between the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah, the Political Council considered that this understanding saved Lebanon from the evils of sedition and division and protected it from external aggression, deterring ‘Israel’ and repelling terrorism, but it did not succeed in the project of building the state and the rule of law.
