MP Hassan Fadlallah said on Tuesday that the Information and Communication Committee concluded discussion on the new Lebanese Information law and approved all its articles, awaiting the General Authority’s ratification.
MP Fadlallah’s words came during the committee’s meeting at the parliament in presence of MPs Ammar Houri, Kamel Al Rifai and Hani Kobeissi, Director General of the Ministry of Information, Hassan Falha, and other concerned dignitaries.
“We say now to all Lebanese media that we have a new unilateral law,” he added.
“This Committee worked hard since 2011 to reach today a new law that contains important and basic contents for the media in Lebanon.”
The committee also hailed the Lebanese judiciary for its ruling that obliges ArabSat to allow Al-Manar TV Channel to resume broadcasting via the Arab company’s satellites, calling on the Lebanese government to follow up the implementation of the court’s verdict.
The committee also demanded that the government organize the media relations between Lebanon and NileSat company in order to protect the local channels’ interests.
ArabSat and NileSat have previously blocked Al-Manar Channel’s broadcasting via their satellites, claiming falsely that it had violated the media norms.
