Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said Thursday that US statements on the campaign of the Russian aerospace forces in Syria and that it intends to violate international law, are not justified.
“I would like to draw your attention to the statements by the US State Department representatives for being unjustified and do not match the truth at all,” she said in her weekly press conference.
In response to a question by Al-Manar correspondent, she said that “continuous coordination is still undergoing in the Quartet Coordination Centre (between Russia, Iran, Syria and Iraq).”
“The only obstacle to end the battle in Aleppo is how to protect civilians and eliminate the terrorists by accurate strikes at one time,” she added.
On the situation in Mosul, Iraq, Zakharova said that the situation in Mosul is deteriorating “despite involvement of great forces and means, including heavy armaments and aircraft of the US-led coalition.”
“Today marks one month since the start of the operation to liberate Mosul, and in Mosul itself, Iraqi military forces are conducting tough battles on the outskirts of the city. We can only welcome each step that lets them advance. However, the situation is still far from coming to an end,” the Russian official said.
“The humanitarian situation in Mosul is degrading more and more,” she noted.
When asked about the cooperation between Russia and the US in Syria, Zakharova commented that Russia maintains some contacts with the US on Syria, “but not as many as Moscow would want”.
She then said that Russia welcomes any steps that promote the resumption of intra-Syrian talks.
