A Russian drone strike on Vyshhorod in the outskirts of Kyiv late Saturday killed one person and wounded 11 others, regional governor Mykola Kalashnyk said. Emergency crews evacuated a residential tower after fires broke out inside the building. The attack came less than 24 hours after a similar strike on Friday that left three people dead and caused widespread power outages across several districts.
Amid the escalating violence, diplomatic activity is intensifying to push the warring sides toward peace talks. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Whitcoff are scheduled to meet today in Florida with a delegation of Ukrainian negotiators to discuss Washington’s plan to end the conflict that has raged since February 2022.

Jared Kushner, the US president’s son-in-law, is also expected to attend. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country’s delegation has already departed for the United States to take part in the discussions.
Meanwhile, the Élysée Palace confirmed that French President Emmanuel Macron will host Zelensky in Paris on Monday to discuss the parameters of a “just and lasting peace,” following earlier talks in Geneva and progress reported under the US-backed peace plan.
Macron last week underscored that France and its European partners are finalizing a mechanism to use frozen Russian assets to provide direct financial support to Kyiv. He said the effort includes forming a security working group with the United Kingdom, Turkey, and the United States to ensure Ukraine’s defense once a peace agreement is reached.
The war, launched on 24 February 2022 when Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation,” has triggered global political and economic turmoil. Estimates from multiple sources suggest the combined death toll of civilians and soldiers on both sides has surpassed 240,000.
