Turkey’s foreign minister and his US counterpart spoke over the phone, Anadolu news agency quoted Turkish diplomatic sources as saying on Saturday.

Mevlut Cavusoglu and Mike Pompeo discussed latest developments in Syria, said the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

On Jan. 8, Pompeo began a nine-nation tour of the Middle East, which is aimed at reassuring allies following US President Donald Trump’s decision in December to withdraw all American troops from Syria.

The tour includes Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, Oman and Kuwait.
