Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stressed on Thursday that the parliamentary elections will be held on time and that there are no obstacles preventing the vote.
In remarks to Lebanese daily Al-Jomhouriya, Speaker Berri was asked about expat voting. He answered by saying: “The electoral law in Lebanon is effective, and that the elections will be held according to it.”
“This means that the voting process will take place in Lebanon, and anyone who wants to cast ballot can come to Lebanon,” he further explained.
Commenting on Gaza ceasefire and swap deal, the Lebanese speaker said: “Something big has happened.”
In this context, he noted that after the implementation of the first phase of Gaza agreement, things can’t be reassuring and they must be dealt with caution.
Regarding the situation in Lebanon, Speaker Berri stressed that he is “not worried,” dismissing what he called some “scenarios and exaggerations that have no profound source” on alleged escalation on the Lebanese front.
Some estimations indicate that following the deal in Gaza the Israeli enemy would turn to Lebanon, Speaker Berri noted.
However, he stressed that “there is no clear information about what could be proposed in this regard.”
