Palestinian health officials reported Wednesday that Israeli airstrikes have killed 42 people since dawn, with the majority of the casualties concentrated in Gaza City. The initial death toll was revised upward from 33 as rescue efforts continued.
The escalation comes amid stark warnings from local authorities of an imminent collapse of essential services. The Gaza-based Government Media Office stated that over 900,000 people remain in Gaza City, while the number of displaced people fleeing south has reached 335,000.

In a separate incident in the southern Gaza Strip, three civilians were martyred and others wounded by Israeli enemy fire while waiting for aid north of Rafah. The report described the incident as “a new crime against defenseless civilians.”

Health System on the Verge of Collapse
In a related development, the Ministry of Health in Gaza issued a dire warning that the health sector is “entering an extremely dangerous phase” due to a critical shortage of fuel. The ministry stated that the delay in fuel deliveries threatens to shut down hospital generators, which would paralyze life-saving medical services.

“A few days may bring scenes of vital departments stopping work, meaning the health crisis will worsen and expose the lives of patients and the wounded to certain death,” the ministry said in a statement Tuesday.
With fuel supplies cut off, the ministry added that emergency measures to ration generator use have become ineffective. It appealed to all concerned parties to intervene immediately “to avoid a disaster with unpredictable results,” signaling that a complete halt to hospital operations is imminent.
