The Lebanese government convened on Monday at Baabda Palace to approve the draft of the ministerial statement, prepared by the competent committee, under the chairmanship of President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, at the invitation and in the presence of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and the ministers.
Prior to the Cabinet session, a meeting was held between the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, during which they discussed the latest developments and the general conditions.
After the session, the information minister Paul Morcos said that President Aoun hailed the ministerial committee for drafting the ministerial statement in a short period of time, adding that 80% of statement relied on the Constitution and 20% was based on the presidential of office.
Morcos noted that, according to the statement, the Lebanese government is committed to the liberation of all the occupied territories and the implementation of the UN Resolution 1701.
The government will launch a dialogue with Syria and prevent the offensive rhetoric against any brotherly nation, Morcos said.
Morcos added that President Aoun pledged to protect the peaceful demonstrations if they do not cut off roads, underlining imposing the criminal auditing on the public institutions.
According to the Constitution, the government submits the draft ministerial statement to the parliament which convenes to hold a confidence vote session.
