In the early hours of Monday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in the Turkish capital and declared that Iran and regional resistance groups remain steadfast in their support for Syria as it battles against terrorist forces.
Speaking to reporters, Araghchi said Iran shares common concerns with Turkey and hopes to reach an understanding with Turkish officials on stabilizing the region.
Araghchi’s comments came after a visit to Damascus, where he said he had a “very positive” and “detailed” meeting with President Bashar al-Assad. “We also had a very good exchange of views on the current developments in Syria and the region,” Araghchi noted.

Despite the difficult conditions, Araghchi said the “spirit of the Syrian government and the resistance” remains firm against the “recent conspiracy by Takfiri terrorists.” He reiterated Iran’s “comprehensive support” for Assad, the Syrian government, army, and people.
Araghchi acknowledged that Syria had faced even more difficult times in the past when battling Daesh and other terror groups, but he said the Syrian army and government are capable of confronting the current threat. He added that regional resistance groups will also assist, and Iran will provide any necessary support to eliminate the Takfiris.
On his trip to Ankara, Araghchi said he will have a detailed meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday to discuss common concerns and seek a “common understanding” that can lead to regional stability.
Araghchi and Fidan are expected to explain the positions of their respective countries in a joint press conference following their talks.
