Hezbollah announced on Thursday that the Head of Liaison and Coordination Unit Wafiq Safa visited the United Arab Emirates to follow up on the cases of Lebanese detainees held there.
In a statement, Hezbollah’s Media Relation Office said that Safa held meetings with a number of Emirati officials, voicing hope that the issue of the Lebanese detainees held in the UAE will be solved.
“The head of the Liaison and Coordination Unit, Hajj Wafiq Safa, visited the United Arab Emirates as part of the ongoing follow up aimed at addressing the case of a number of Lebanese detainees there,” the statement, carried by Al-Manar read.
“Hajj Safa met with a number of officials concerned with this case, and hope is pinned that this case will reach the desired end.”
On the other hand, Hezbollah firmly denied a report by local media outlet which claimed that Safa is seeking the nomination of a Lebanese presidential hopeful other the one announced by Hezbollah.
We categorically deny Nidaa Al-Watan newspaper’s fabricated story, which is full of lies and fantasies, and whose goals are well known.”
Hezbollah has been for months supporting the nomination of Marada Movement leader Sleiman Frangieh for presidency in Lebanon.
