An Egyptian policeman has opened fire on tourists in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, killing at least two Israelis and an Egyptian, according to local media reports.
The Israeli foreign ministry announced that two Israeli tourists and their Egyptian guide were shot dead in the shooting.
A policeman alleged to have carried out the shooting in the Sawari district of Alexandria was in custody, Reuters news agency quoted two Egyptian security sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Extra News television channel, which has close ties to Egyptian security agencies, quoted an unidentified security official as saying that another person was wounded in the attack on an Israeli tour group in Pompey’s Pillar site in Alexandria.
A video circulating on social media showed at least three ambulances apparently taking the killed and the injured to hospitals.
