Tensions were high at the Damon prison on Tuesday as Officers from the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) assaulted female Palestinian prisoners at the facility.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society reported that IPS officers fired tear gas in the female section of the Damon facility and beat the prisoners there.
Israeli officers assaulted the prisoners’ representative Yasmine Shaaban, moved her to solitary confinement, and seized electric appliances from the jail’s female section, a move that enraged the prisoners, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.
The Palestinian female prisoners, in response, declared disobedience, announcing that the prison’s sections will be closed on Tuesday afternoon.
“The punitive actions taken in the Damon prison will have consequences in all prisons. The situation is getting worse as of the measures taken by the fascist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The Israeli government bears full responsibility for the situation and its consequences,” the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said in a statement.
For its part, Palestinian resistance movement Hamas warned against attacking the detainees, vowing that these punitive measures won’t go unanswered.
