Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami announced the country’s plans to construct a fully home-grown nuclear power plant in Southwestern Iran.
The AEOI plans to build an entirely Iranian-built power plant in Khuzestan province, Eslami said on Tuesday.
“We are planning to build a 360-megawatt power plant in Darkhovin. This project will be an all-Iranian made power plant, which we have included in the development plan along with the research reactors required by the organization,” he added.
Eslami also announced that the comprehensive development document of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran will be unveiled on April 9.
The document has passed the legal approval process and will be unveiled by Iranian President Ebrahim Rayeesi on April 9, he added.
Iranian Government Spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi had also said on Tuesday that the country would unveil a comprehensive strategic document on the development of the nuclear industry on April 9.
The comprehensive strategic document for the development of country’s nuclear industry will be unveiled on April 9 concurrently with the National Day of Nuclear Technology in the presence of President Rayeesi, Bahadori Jahromi told reporters in a press conference in Tehran.
He underlined the importance of the slogan of current year named after by the Leader of Islamic Revolution entitled “Production: Knowledge-based and Job-Creating”, and said the government will make its utmost efforts in line with materializing objectives of the slogan.
Bahadori Jahromi further pointed out that effective steps have been taken in the 13th government in the current Iranian year (started on March 21) for improving the country’s economy.
In relevant remarks in March, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei underlined that Iran will not retreat from strengthening its regional power and peaceful nuclear industry in favor of any other benefits.
“It is vital for any country to have national power,” Ayatollah Khamenei said, addressing a meeting with Iran’s Assembly of Experts.
He said any nation seeking independence and resistance against the will of others needs to “stand strong, otherwise it will be fearful, weak, humiliated and constantly worried about the foreigners’ greedy eyes”.
Imam Khamenei described national power as a “compound issue” and an “intertwined network” comprised of multiple factors.
The Leader said among the “pillars of national power” are “security and defense power”, “economy, public welfare and easy livelihood”, “the power of politicking and bargaining to fulfill national interests at the regional and global front” and “culture and lifestyle”, among other things.
“None of these arms of national power should be cut off in favor of one pillar and the other,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
