If the organizers of the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov aimed to disrupt the counterterrorism efforts, they will fail, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday.
Karlov was shot by a gunman at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara late on Monday. Doctors announced the ambassador’s death 40 minutes after his hospitalization. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it considers the attack a terrorist act.
“If the organizers of the attack pursued the goal to derail the fight against terrorism in general, and our meeting today in particular, they did not succeed, and will not succeed,” Lavrov said at a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Moscow.
The Russian top diplomat said the fight against terrorism should be uncompromising and tough.
