Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, and welcomed Beijing’s active efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
“The Saudi side welcomes the active role of China in protecting security in the Middle East region and welcomes China’s initiatives in these areas”, Farhan Al Saud said, as quoted by Sputnik news agency on Thursday.
Talks in Neom focused on bilateral relations and promising opportunities to boost them in various fields, Saudi media reported.
The two diplomats discussed the latest regional and international developments and efforts aimed at bolstering stability and security.
On Wednesday, Wang started his Middle East tour, which includes official visits to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, as well as a working visit to Oman.
His visit to Riyadh comes days after Saudi Arabia proposed a ceasefire in Yemen, where it has been launching a brutal aggression since March 2015 in a bid to restore power to fugitive President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who is an ally for Riyadh.
Yemeni Ansarullah revolutionary group, which has been confronting the aggression since 2015, stressed that the Saudi plan was not serious as it turn a blind eye on the dire humanitarian situation in the Arab impoverished country.
Earlier on Wednesday, Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population announced that the number of people martyred in the war on Yemen reached 17,097, noting that this number includes 3,821 children and 2,892 women.
