Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif spoke to his Syrian counterpart Faysal Mikdad on Friday hours after US air strikes on eastern Syria near the Iraqi border.
“The two sides stressed the need of the West to adhere to UN Security Council resolutions regarding Syria,” Iranian government website Dolat.ir said.
The two top diplomats stressed the need for Western powers’ compliance with the UN Security Council resolutions on Syria and the need for respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Arab country, IRNA news agency reported.
Earlier on Thursday, US Air Force planes have launched missile strikes on several targets in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.
US Department of Defense confirmed the reports, saying that airstrikes were targeting facilities allegedly used by “Iranian-backed militias” and conducted in response to recent attacks in Iraq.
