In the wake of Beirut Port’s massive blast, a statement issued on Wednesday by the Media and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry announced a “Russian Humanitarian Operation in Lebanon”.
“The Russian President and the Russian Ministry of Emergency, in cooperation with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rospotrebnadzor, have drafted a plan to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the friendly Lebanese people to help eliminate the consequences of this disaster,” a statement by Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.
“It has been decided to send rescuers teams to Beirut, with the necessary equipment for search and rescue operations,” the statement added, promising as well a mobile PCR laboratory. The statement also indicated that “the Lebanese leadership has welcomed the Russian initiative” and has expressed “its gratitude for Russia’s willingness to help.”
