Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the country has overcome the US sanctions and successfully dealt with the economic war challenges by cutting reliance on the oil incomes.
Addressing a Tuesday session of the Administration’s Economic Coordination Headquarters, Rouhani highlighted the special plans and policies formulated by his administration to address the economic problems.
“The Americans were expecting that the country’s economy would come to a halt a while after the onset of the sanctions, but today we have managed to run the country with planning and reliance on oil-free economy.
“This is a display of power and a major victory for the Iranian nation in the economic war,” the president added.
He also said that while the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the world economy and hampered the supply of basic needs even in some developed countries, the Iranian administration has gotten through the difficult conditions with special arrangements, preparedness of structures and organizations, and cooperation from people.
The president further reiterated that one of the main priorities of his administration is to fulfill the basic demands of people and producers, stressing the need to monitor and control the price of commodities and prevent the “temporary and unreasonable” fluctuation in prices.
Back in June, Rouhani highlighted his administration’s efforts to deal with the economic consequences of the coronavirus outbreak, saying there have been initiatives to protect the livelihood of people and prevent price hikes.
In April, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei gave permission for withdrawing €1 billion from the National Development Fund of Iran to battle against the novel coronavirus and handle the consequences of the disease.
