Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, Brett McGurk, described on Wednesday the step by Kurdish People’s Protection Units to withdraw to the east of the Euphrates River in the north-east countryside of Syria’s Aleppo as a “milestone.”
McGurk said in his tweet that all units of Kurdish protection will leave Manbej after training the local units to maintain security in the face of the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) terrorist group.
“Milestone: all #YPG units to depart Manbij & return east of Euphrates after local units complete training to maintain security after #ISIL,” he tweeted.
“Our coalition is proud to train and support local forces to defend their home areas as the best formula to ensure ISIL can never return,” McGurk said in another tweet.
