President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, met Monday at Baabda Palace with Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, in the presence of Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Jebran Bassil, according to NA.
Zarif said that electing a new president is a victory for all the Lebanese, adding that Iran and Lebanon can strengthen their mutual political and economic relations.
Zarif also visited, as part of an official visit to Lebanon, the Foreign Ministry where he met his Lebanese counterpart Jebran Bassil.
After the talks, the two men held a joint press conference in which they stressed the importance of strengthening the mutual ties.
Bassil thanked Iran for supporting Lebanon in its fight against the Zionist entity and the takfiri groups, calling on developing the economic ties between the two countries.
For his part, the Iranian minister confirmed his country’s support to Lebanon, emphasizing that common threats endanger the both nations.
Zarif will also hold talks respectively with House Speaker Nabih Berri, Caretaker Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, in addition to a number of political and spiritual dignitaries, over the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, NNA reported.
The Iranian top diplomat had arrived on the same day in Beirut as he was greeted by MP Ali Bazzi representing Speaker Nabih Berri, Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammed Fateh Ali, and Embassy senior staff.
General Michel Aoun was elected on October 31, 2016, which ended a 29-month of a presidential vacuum.
Hariri was designated to form a new cabinet on Thursday after a binding parliamentary consultations held by the President.
