Syrian air defense system intercepted hostile missiles coming from the sea into Latakia city on Monday evening, local and international media reported.
SANA news agency said the aggression has targeted the Technical Industries’ establishment, adding that the air defenses confronted a number of the missiles before reaching their targets.
Sputnik News’ source said Syria’s air defense systems have responded to an air attack in Latakia, adding that “most likely there were drones and missiles involved.”
Syria journalist Leith Abou Fadel said that some missiles hit parts of the city, noting that power outages were reported resulting from the blasts.
Abou Fadel quoted sources in the Syrian Army as saying that the missiles were shot by armed drones and were not airstrikes.
A London-based rights group, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, later told Sputnik that seven people had been injured in the attack.
