The Lebanese President Michel Aoun urged the Lebanese people not to be dragged behind rumors, saying “they come with an orchestrated context to distract attention from the achievements of the nation-building process.”
President Aoun’s position came in a statement issued prior to his departure to New York, where he is heading the Lebanese delegation to the UN General Assembly.
“Recently, rumors targeting the trust of citizens in their State Institutions have been intensifying, ranging from triggering doubt in the national currency, to accusing some state officials with corruption, to targeting the army while confronting terrorism, to spreading an atmosphere of fear and concern by talking about anticipated terrorist operations,” Aoun added.
“I call on all Lebanese to trust their State and its institutions,” the President concluded.
President Aoun left Beirut Sunday afternoon for New York, heading Lebanon’s delegation to the UN General Assembly.
