President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Tuesday met at Baabda Palace with Deputy U.S. Envoy to the Middle East Morgan Ortagus, accompanied by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Keith Hannigan and Political Counselor Matthew Totillo. Discussions reportedly centered on the overall situation in Lebanon and the measures needed to restore calm and stability in the south.
President Aoun underscored the urgency of reactivating the Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (“Mechanism”), particularly to curb ongoing Israeli violations and attacks on Lebanese territory, and to ensure the full implementation of UN Resolution 1701.
Moreover, the President emphasized enabling the Lebanese Army’s complete deployment along the international southern border and facilitating the return of displaced southern residents to their homes and the restoration of damaged properties, especially with the onset of winter.
Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday welcomed Ortagus and her accompanying delegation at the Ain al-Tineh residence, in the presence of US Chargé d’Affaires Keith Hannigan and Ali Hamdan, the Speaker’s media advisor.
Discussions focused on the ongoing Israeli violations and daily attacks against Lebanon, as well as the work and activation of the five-member technical committee tasked with monitoring the ceasefire mechanism (Mechanism).

The prime minister Nawaf Salam also received Ortagus and the accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of the Israeli withdrawal from all the Lebanese territories and supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces to complete its missions.
