Lebanese Minister of Information Ziad Makari announced that the Cabinet has approved the deployment of the Lebanese Army to the South Litani area.
Speaking after a Cabinet session held in Tyre on Saturday, Makari noted that the army has already begun deploying troops and is in urgent need of additional equipment and personnel. He added that the Army Commander confirmed forthcoming military assistance to bolster the institution.
Efforts are underway to clear debris and unexploded cluster munitions in the South, while the army continues to secure Lebanon’s northern and eastern borders amidst ongoing regional developments. Makari dismissed claims of guarantees from armed groups to refrain from crossing into Lebanese territory as unfounded.
The Cabinet session, presided over by Prime Minister Najib Mikati, also focused on plans to survey damages, remove rubble, and rebuild homes destroyed during the recent Israeli aggression. Mikati emphasized the army’s commitment to implementing UN Resolution 1701 and coordinating with UNIFIL to maintain stability and ensure Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory.
PM Mikati reaffirmed Lebanon’s sovereignty and resilience, lauding the sacrifices of the armed forces and the steadfastness of the Lebanese people. He emphasized that reconstructing and stabilizing the South is pivotal for peace in the Middle East.
