UN Agencies Face Challenges in Gaza Due to Israeli Evacuation Orders
The United Nations’ humanitarian efforts in Gaza have hit a roadblock, as revealed by the Senior Deputy Field Director for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) on Monday. Sam Rose stated that numerous Israeli evacuation orders have severely constrained their operations in the region.

Rose explained, “It was about this time yesterday when evacuation orders were issued. The ones [slews] of last night affected a block of Gaza in which a number of UN international guest houses were situated … the humanitarian operations have been incredibly squeezed.” The United Nations estimates that as a result, around a million Palestinians will now be deprived of the aid intended to be delivered by UN agencies.

UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric highlighted the challenges faced on the ground, mentioning that parts of Salah al-Din Road, a crucial route for humanitarian missions, were included in the recent “evacuation order” issued on Saturday for parts of the Deir al-Balah governorate. This development has made it nearly impossible for aid workers to travel along this major road, further complicating the delivery of much-needed assistance in Gaza.
