In the wake of US military strikes on sites used by Iraqi anti-terror forces, Iraqi resistance groups have pledged to persist with their operations against military bases where US forces and trainers are stationed. This retaliation comes in response to Washington’s unwavering support for the Israeli war on Gaza.
The Secretary General of Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada resistance group, Abu Ala al-Walai, stated on Wednesday that they have entered the second phase of their operations following the US strikes on their positions. Al-Walai emphasized that their strikes will persist until the blockade on Gaza is lifted and the Israeli attacks on its residents cease.
Echoing these sentiments, Jaafar al-Husseini, a spokesperson for Kata’ib Hezbollah, affirmed the determination of Iraqi resistance groups to continue attacking enemy bases until victory is achieved in Gaza. He vowed to carry on until the US-supported Israeli killing machine is halted and the complete blockade on Gaza is lifted. Al-Husseini added, “This is a solemn promise to freedom-loving people.”
In response to repeated attacks on US forces, US Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin confirmed that airstrikes were conducted in Iraq on Tuesday, targeting facilities used by resistance groups in the country. Austin explained that the strikes were a direct response to escalating attacks against US and coalition personnel by Iranian-backed militia groups in Iraq and Syria.
Sources report that the strikes targeted three facilities used by Katai’b Hezbollah and other resistance groups. Two sites in western Iraq, including al-Qa’im town near the Syrian border, and Jurf al-Sakhar region south of Baghdad were impacted. According to the Iraqi Interior Ministry and a former member of the Hashd al-Sha’abi forces, two individuals were martyred, and two others were wounded in the al-Qa’im sector.
In retaliation for the US strikes, Iraqi resistance forces targeted a US-occupied military facility in neighboring Syria, as well as the Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq
