US Secretary of State John Kerry met his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu during the G20 summit in China, the Anadolu Agency reported on Saturday.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the Syrian crisis, the situation in Syria’s Manbij and Jarablus, as well as fighting the ISIL terrorist group.
They also discussed the aspects of extradition of US-bbased Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen whom Ankara accuses of being behind the July 15 military coup attempt.
Following the coup, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had declared a three-month state of emergency in Turkey on July 20.
Turkish authorities have sent two requests for Gulen’s extradition from the US.
In addition to US’ refusal to extradite Gulen, relations between US and Turkey have been already strained over Washington’s partnership with the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the PKK group’s Syria offshoot.
