Former President Donald Trump has been officially booked into Fulton County Jail on Thursday night. Jail records reveal that Trump faces thirteen charges related to his alleged role in an election meddling scheme in Georgia.
The charges stem from his January 2021 phone call with Georgia Secretary Brad Raffensperger where Trump was said to have asked for help finding 11,780 votes in his favor, enough to claim the state in the 2020 election.
Trump’s booking was quick compared to his co-defendants, taking only 20 minutes from the motorcade’s arrival to his release.
The booking number lists him as 2313827, and he also took a formal booking photo like his fellow defendants. Trump spoke to reporters at the scene of his arrival, calling it a “very sad day for America” and insisting that he didn’t do anything wrong, accusing Democrats of politically attacking him.
This marks the fourth indictment that Trump is facing, with charges ranging from mishandling classified documents to election interference. Trump is expected to leave Atlanta until the first court hearing, scheduled this September. It remains to be seen how this will affect his potential bid for the White House in the 2024 election.
