The spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday that Tehran has had great flexibility in the talks and that being close to or far from agreement depends on Washington’s political decision.
Iran is faithful to the process of talks and continues to be so until a good and strong agreement is reached, Nasser Kanaani told reporters at his weekly press briefing in Tehran.
If the US acts constructively and positively, an agreement is close, Kanaani said.
Meanwhile, the principled policy of the Iranian government is to not let the people’s livelihood be knotted to the talks on the removal of the sanctions, Kanaani noted.
The truth is that Iran has not left the negotiating table, he said, adding that Iran acts neither hastily nor emotionally and the talks are in progress through the communication channels.
The spokesman went on to say that the talks with Deputy Secretary-General of European External Action Service Enrique Mora are underway at the level of foreign ministers and negotiators.
Elaborating on the process of talks, Kanaani said other countries including some regional states – Oman and Qatar – have announced some initiatives.
Iran is after a good, strong, and sustainable agreement, the spokesman stressed.
Grossi’s approach toward Iran’s nuclear program is “non-professional” and “non-technical”
Elsewhere, he referred to the remarks made by Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi about Iran and described those remarks as nonprofessional and unfair.
Unfortunately, Iran’s constructive measures have not been responded to by the IAEA positively, Kanaani said, expressing regret that some parts of those remarks are the stances of the Zionist regime of Israel.
In recent years, Iran has been making effort to end misunderstandings through a constructive and interactive attitude, the spokesman added, advising the IAEA chief to pay attention to Iran’s constructive cooperation and play a constructive role in the talks.
No change in Iran’s stance on the war in Ukraine
The spokesman underlined that Iran’s stance on the war in Ukraine is completely clear and such a stance has already been announced by the foreign minister over and over.
Iran is against any military solution and believes that the disputes should be solved through political ways.
Grounds are ready for Iran-Saudi Arabia official and political meeting
About the next meeting between Tehran and Riyadh, the spokesman said it will be held officially in the Iraqi capital.
Iran after release of Assadi
Talks with the Belgian Government are underway and Iran’s stance has remained unchanged, Kanaani said while stressing the innocence of the Iranian diplomat Assadollah Assadi and underlining the need for his immediate release with no conditions.
Assadi, a diplomat at Iran’s Embassy in Austria, was arrested by the Belgian Government while he was on vacation near a German state about four years ago. Ha has been in jail in Belgium for two years.
Secretary of High Council for Human Rights Kazem Gharibabadi has announced that Assadi’s arrest in Germany and keeping him in jail in improper conditions for 101 days was against the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
Fate of Hamid Nouri
As the spokesman announced, the problem should be solved under the shadow of dialog and Iran has no plan to decrease the level of relations with Sweden.
Reportedly, although Hamid Nouri, the former Iranian official, has been under arrest in Sweden for about three years and his long 92-session court process has ended, he is still kept in solitary confinement and has not had access to doctors. Also, tough restrictions have been imposed on his contacts with his family.
Security of Iraq
Speaking about security in Iraq, the spokesman said Iran attaches importance to the neighboring country and sees the security of the neighbor as its own.
Talks and the role of France
Paris is willing to play a helpful and positive role in the talks, Kanaani noted adding that the recent telephone conversation between the Iranian and French presidents was a noticeable diplomatic development.
Over the phone, French President Emmanuel Macron had said that his country would continue efforts to make nuclear negotiations bear result.
Developments in Sri Lanka
Asked about the recent developments in Sri Lanka, the spokesman told reporters that the Islamic Republic has good ties with Sri Lanka and observes developments in that country with sensitivity.
Kanaani hoped that tranquility would return to that country and stressed that Iran welcomes a positive process of political developments in Sri Lanka.
Zionist regime, a threat to regional stability
Iran has always warned of the Zionist regime of Israel’s illegal activities as the regime buries its nuclear wastes in the West Bank, Kanaani said, urging the international bodies and the IAEA to be responsible for the issue.
The Zionist regime of Israel’s nuclear activities are not under the IAEA supervision so they have created environmental problems for the region.
Regional mechanism for returning security to Afghanistan
Asked whether Iran officially recognizes the Taliban in Afghanistan or not, Kanaani said Afghanistan is among important regional issues, so Iran attaches importance to any developments in the neighboring country.
Iran, within the framework of constructive interaction, makes effort to have constructive cooperation with the caretaker government of the Taliban in Afghanistan in order to help restoration of tranquility and stability in the neighboring state, the spokesman underlined.
In the end, the spokesman talked about the US Secretary of Defense’s statement about Iran’s drones and said the United States is after fanning the flames of Iranophobia and creating tension in the region to prepare the ground for selling weapons.
Instead, the Islamic Republic of Iran is after following up policy on neighborliness, he concluded, advising the US administration to stop its double-standard policies.
