The Iranian foreign minister rejected as baseless the accusations made by the US that Iran has provided Russia with drones for the war in Ukraine, saying such claims only serve political purposes amid US president Joe Biden’s visit to the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a telephone conversation on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir abdollahian and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba discussed the bilateral ties between Tehran and Kiev and some regional as well as international issues, including the Ukraine war.
Reaffirming Iran’s principled policy to oppose war, Amir abdollahian said, “Just as we said at the beginning of the crisis, we are opposed to war in Afghanistan, Yemen, Palestine and also Ukraine.”
He added that Iran’s policy is based on this principle and Tehran is against any move that would lead to the continuation and escalation of hostilities.
Amir abdollahian also rejected the US national security advisor’s baseless claim that Iran is sending drones to Russia for use in the war on Ukraine. He said making such allegations at a time when US President Joe Biden is visiting occupied Palestine is aimed at achieving specific political goals and purposes.
He said Iran’s principled and clear policy to oppose war and support ending the conflicts is not based on double standards like the duplicitous approaches of some Western countries, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
The top Iranian diplomat added that Iran continues to do its utmost to end the war and resolve the Ukraine crisis through political means.
Amir abdollahian also expressed Iran’s readiness for the expansion of ties with Kiev, especially in the economic and agricultural fields.
For his part, Kuleba praised Iran’s stances in opposition to war, underlining that Ukraine views continued contacts between the foreign ministers of Iran and Ukraine even during the tough days of the war as very precious.
Kuleba added that he agrees with Amir abdollahian that Tehran and Kiev should not let the accusations, made by others, damage their relations.
He also outlined the latest state of the war in Ukraine and thanked Iran’s efforts to ensure a truce and its concentration on the political settlement of the crisis.
