Isaac Herzog will travel to the United Arab Emirates next week, in what is set to be the first official visit by an Israeli president to the Gulf state.
During the visit, Herzog is set to meet with Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Vice President and Vice Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and representatives of the Jewish community.
In addition, he will open “Israel Day” at the Expo 2020 in Dubai, Israeli media reported.
The visit comes some 16 months after the UAE signed a normalization deal with the Zionist entity. The move was part of a series of US-brokered deals known as the Abraham Accords.
The pacts were negotiated under former US President Donald Trump but endorsed by President Joe Biden’s administration. Bahrain and Morocco have also normalised ties with Israel under the accords.
Palestinians have condemned the accords as a stab in their back and a direct affront to their cause to liberate their lands from Israeli occupation.
