An explosion of a petrol tanker in the town of Al-Tleil in Akkar at dawn today resulted in dozens of deaths, while members of the Red Cross, Civil Defense and the army are still working to help the people transport the wounded to several hospitals in Akkar, Tripoli and Beirut, amid a state of great tension, and a distress call to donate blood in the region’s hospitals for the wounded who suffered burns, and the injuries of most of them are very critical.
The number of victims of the tank explosion has so far reached 28, in addition to 80 injuries, some of them very critical.
The circumstances of the explosion are still unclear, pending the results of the investigations and hearing the testimonies of the wounded, most of whom gathered around the tank to fill gasoline from the camouflaged warehouse, which was found by a group of young men yesterday afternoon, and an army force attended at the time to deal with matters.
After the army left the area at night, there was a huge stampede among the people of the area to fill the remaining gasoline in the tank, where the explosion occurred.
The area where the explosion occurred is still being surveyed in search of possible missing persons.
It is worth noting that the number of ambulances sent by the Red Cross to contribute to the evacuation of the victims is 25 and about 80 paramedics from 9 centers, in addition to 5 teams from the Emergency and Relief Agency in Tripoli, in addition to the army and civil defense.
Caretaker Minister Hamad Hasan, sent, via Al-Jazeera, an appeal to evacuate the wounded outside Lebanon.
Hasan announced that the death toll had risen to 22, while the number of wounded reached more than 79, in the explosion of a fuel tanker in the town of Al-Tallil in the northern Akkar region.
