President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, asserted that Lebanon passes through its most difficult times today, and it can no longer wait for regional or major solutions.
“Lebanon needs all the help and support of the international community, whether humanitarian, social and health aid, or aid which contributes to the continuation of basic services which citizens need, especially in the health sector, and in the maintenance of water and electricity infrastructure, as well as the assistance which contributes to securing the needs of the Army and security forces” President Aoun said.
The President also stressed that “Today, we are in a new phase. I hope to form a government capable of implementing required reforms and preparing for the upcoming parliamentary elections, in parallel with building trust with our international partners and communicating with the International Monetary Fund”.
Moreover, the President reiterated his commitment to achieve justice and hold those who are proven to be involved in the explosion accountable. “No one is above the law, no matter how high his rank is. Let the judiciary go till the end in investigations and trials, until the facts are revealed and the desired justice is achieved” the President said.
Positions of President Aoun came at the beginning of the Conference to Support Lebanon and the Lebanese in Paris.
The conference was held at 1:00pm Beirut time, through Zoom video technology, in which the following participated: French President, Emmanuel Macron, United States President, Joe Biden, United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, European Union President, Charles Michel, Canadian Premier, Justin Trudeau, Egyptian President, Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi, Jordanian King, Abdullah II, Iraqi Premier, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, Kuwaiti Premier, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Managing Director of the IMF, Christalina Georgieva, World Bank President, David Malpass, and WHO President, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Acting Foreign Affairs Minister, Mrs. Zeina Akar, also participated in the conference, alongside the President.
