The new government in Washington has a chance to test a new approach, but the existing window is rapidly closing, Zarif said on the sidelines of a ceremony to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Referring to the victory of the Islamic revolution in Iran 42 years ago, he said in contrast with similar revolutions in world history, the one which occurred in Iran gained victory by neither relying on a foreign power nor seeking the assistance of some armed groups.

The minister noted that the century-long combat of the Iranian nation to gain the right for self-determination and have an accountable government finally culminated in a victory achieved by merely depending on the people’s power in spite of all foreign sabotage and plots.

“We have a long” way and will not rest in moving towards the materialization of “our ideals”, Zarif said.

Zarif has called on the United States to take lessons from maximum failure of the Trump administration in dealing with the Islamic Republic and take the opportunity of negotiations as well.

Zarif said on the sidelines of the 42nd victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution that the new US administration has the opportunity to test a new approach, but the window of opportunity is closing fast.

According to the Iranian foreign minister, the government of President Hassan Rouhani will carry out another compensatory action in response to non-compliance from the US and Europe, who did not abide by their commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal. The Iranian parliament ratified a bill to call on the government to reduce cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

If the US decides to take lessons from former President Donald Trump’s maximum pressure in dealing with the Islamic Republic, Tehran will return to its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Zarif noted.

Pointing to regional cooperation to strengthen security in the West Asia region, the top diplomat said that Iran has expressed readiness time and again to expand interaction and collaboration in line with common interests.

“The ceaseless goal of all of our efforts is that we want to build a more stable, tranquil and flourished region,” Zarif said.

He further expressed hope that the neighboring states will learn they could not wait for foreigners to guarantee their security, adding that regional nations should rely on each others.

Iranians will do the job that they say, because the Iranian people keep their word, the foreign minister underlined.

Zarif also noted that once more on the victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, Iran stresses the need for taking the opportunity to hold talks and putting an end to fruitless hostility towards the Iranian nation.
