The Lebanese army detained on Friday a senior ISIL commander along with his group in a major operation in the outskirts of the northeastern town of Arsal.
Al-Manar correspondent in Bekaa reported that the Lebanese soldiers staged a security operation in Wadi al-Araneb area in Arsal barrens, in which it raided posts of Takfiri ISIL group.
Fierce clashes between the army soldiers and the terrorists took place and lasted for an hour, our correspondent said.
Senior ISIL commander, Ahmad Youssef Ammoun, was injured in the operation which led to his detention along with other 11 terrorists, al-Manar correspondent said.
Huge amount of ammunitions were confiscated during the operation, and the army is still patrolling in and around Arsal.
Our correspondent said that Ammoun is one of the most dangerous wanted terrorists in the restive town. He has taken part in several terrorists attack against the Lebanese army since 2013.
The detained militants are reportedly involved in providing logistic cover for the eight suicide bombers that targeted the Christian border village of Al-Qaa in June.
