Walid Jumblatt, former head of Lebanon’s Progressive Socialist Party, stated, “We reject normalization and insist on a ceasefire before any return to the principles established at the Beirut Arab Summit.” He emphasized, “We adhere to fixed principles, primarily concerning the land and sovereignty—and by land, we mean everything above and below it.”
Jumblatt made these remarks on Sunday following a meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri at Ain al-Tineh. The meeting was attended by MP Taymour Jumblatt, head of the Democratic Gathering bloc, and former minister Ghazi Aridi.
He further affirmed, “We refuse to negotiate under fire with the Israeli enemy,” noting that “Simon Karam, appointed head of the negotiating delegation, is a seasoned negotiator. However, any negotiations must take place under the conditions of a solid ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal, and the return of displaced residents to their villages.”
Jumblatt also called for “strengthening the Lebanese army,” expressing support for “the army’s measures south of the Litani River.” He concluded by questioning, “Where is the international aid for the Lebanese army?”
