One month after tasking the army with drafting a plan to confine all weapons to the state by the end of the year and approving the objectives of the US proposal submitted by the envoy Thomas Barrack pertaining to the ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese government convened on Friday at Baabda Palace.
High tensions preceded the session amid speculations related to the decisions and their repercussions in light of the Israeli escalation against Lebanon.
However, political contacts succeeded in finding a resolution that relatively suits the various parties. In this context, the government welcomed the military plan instead of approving it. The Army would have to present a monthly report about the implementation of the plan.
Minister of Information Paul Morcos indicated that the Lebanese Army Commander Major General Rodolph Haykal highlighted the barriers which prevent the implementation of the plan, including mainly the Israeli occupation of positions within the Lebanese territory and attacks on the various towns and cities in Lebanon.
Thus, the council of ministers maintained that the implementation of the Army plan is based on the UN Resolution 1701 in addition to the oath speech of President Aoun and the ministerial statement, not the US paper.
Meanwhile, he five Shiite ministers–Rakan Nasereddine, Mohammad Haidar, Yassin Jaber, Tamara Al-Zein and Fadi Makki, quit the session as they consider that the Army plan is based on an unconstitutional decision taken by the government on August 5, 2025, in the absence of the Shia sect in Lebanon.
