The Cabinet convened at 3:00 pm on Friday at Baabda Palace, under the chairmanship of President Joseph Aoun, in the presence of Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, and ministers.
The meeting’s agenda includes four key items, focusing on financial and environmental matters, in addition to a presentation of the military’s plan to address the control of weapons.
Prior to the session, Presidents Aoun and Salam held a meeting to discuss the latest developments.
After approving the four-item agenda, the Lebanese Army Commander Major General Rodolph Haykal joined the meeting in order to present the military plan concerned with the exclusive control of weapons.
Accordingly, the five Shiite ministers–Rakan Nasereddine, Mohammad Haidar, Yassin Jaber, Tamara Al-Zein and Fadi Makki, quit the session as they consider that the Army plan is based on an unconstitutional decision taken by the government on August 5, 2025, in the absence of the Shia sect in Lebanon.
Later on, the minister Makki puts his resignation from the government in the hands of President Aoun.
The labor minister Mohammad Haidar affirmed respect to the Army and its Commander, adding that the withdrawal was based on political and constitutional considerations.
Hezbollah and Amal Movement ministers will take the necessary measures in light of the outcomes of the cabinet session, he added.
