A poll by the Maariv Israeli daily shows 62 percent of the public believes the current government has lost the confidence of the majority of Israelis.
The survey asked respondents, “Without regard to how you voted in the last election, do you believe the government has the confidence of the nation now?”
Only 27% respondents answered that the government has the confidence of the majority of the Israelis, and 11% answer that they didn’t know, Israeli media reported.

Measuring support for a hostage deal, the survey found that 26% of respondents believe that the government needs to sign a deal immediately, even if it only brings back some of the captives, due to their deteriorating state in captivity.
Forty-six percent answered that the Israeli government should sign a comprehensive deal that ends the war in Gaza, while 18% oppose a deal, believing that the military should continue fighting Hamas even at the risk to the lives of the captives.

Ten percent did not know what to answer.
The poll was carried out between August 20 and 21, with 509 respondents, and has a 4.4% margin of error, The Times of Israel reported.
