Lebanese Government held official and popular funeral for Salim Al-Hoss, a distinguished statesman who served as the country’s Prime Minister five times over several decades.
Al-Hoss, who passed away on Sunday, at the age of 94, was remembered for his significant contributions during some of Lebanon’s most turbulent periods.
The funeral procession moved at noon on Monday to Imam Al-Ouzai Mosque, where caretaker PM Najib Mikati, MP Mohammad Khawaja representing Speaker Nabih Berri, Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Abdul-Latif Derian, Head of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc MP Mohammad Raad and other figures received the body for funeral prayers before burial at the mosque’s cemetery.
“He was a self-made man, the conscience of Lebanon, and a staunch defender of the Palestinian cause. He always prioritized the nation’s interest and the well-being of its citizens, acting with selflessness, objectivity, and constitutional integrity. No matter how much we try to follow his example, we will always fall short,” Mikati said in a eulogy, recalling Al-Hoss’s patriotic positions.
