New villages and cities were liberated in a military operation on Wednesday by the Syrian army and its allies in the mountains situated in the north-east of Aleppo.
Syrian news agency SANA quoted a military source saying that the Syrian army units freed 21 villages and cities during their operation in northeastern Aleppo from where they chased out the terrorists.
The Syrian army also took control of two important mountains including al-Salma from which the terrorists were monitoring the entire region.
A large number of terrorists were killed and their vehicles destroyed in the operation, the source said.
“The number of populated localities liberated by the Syrian government forces from armed units of the ISIL terrorist organization has increased to 145 since the beginning of the year. Over the past 24 hours, government forces regained control over 83.6 square kilometers. Overall, 2,907.7 square kilometers have been liberated since January 1, 2017,” the Russian Center for Reconciliation of warring sides in Syria said on Wednesday quoted by TASS and Al Masdar News.
