The Lebanese authorities resumed on Wednesday the voluntary return of the Syrian refugees after a 3-year stop due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The Lebanese General Security took the required measures at Zamarani and Abbodiyeh border crossing to organize and facilitate the return procedures.
The prepared buses began transporting Syrian nationals who have decided to return to Syria from different Lebanese regions.
General Security Chief, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, on Tuesday stressed that the repatriation of the displaced Syrians is a national duty, adding that the Syrian side has welcomed this move.
“Lebanon rejects some approaches to this file, especially those of the humanitarian organizations,” he told a press conference.
“We will not bow to the pressures because the interest of the Lebanese people comes first,” he said.
“We will not force any displaced Syrian to return to Syria,” he added.
