A deadly shooting at a park in Los Angeles, California has been the latest of a series of gun violence incidents to hit the United States.
Police and emergency teams responded to calls of “a shooting with multiple victims” in the Peck Park community in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles on Sunday.
Eyewitness video obtained by Reuters showed paramedics wheeling people to ambulances as scores of police personnel secured the scene outside Peck Park community center.
Authorities took seven people to hospitals in the area, and two of them, a man and a woman, later died from their wounds, a fire department spokesman said.
The shooting victims, four men and three women, ranged in age from 23 to 54, according to the official, without giving further details.
Police had yet to report whether they had identified any suspects.
CBS News cited local media as reporting that the shooting erupted at a baseball field in the park as about 500 people gathered there for an unofficial car show.
LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz told reportes the incident arose from “a dispute between two parties,” but “we don’t know how many shooters we have at this point,” the Los Angeles Times reported.
Frequent mass shootings in the United States prompted President Joe Biden to sign a gun safety bill that Congress swiftly passed in response to recent shooting massacres, notably one at a Uvalde, Texas, elementary school and another at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket.
