President Michel Aoun met with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, National News Agency correspondent reported on Monday.
President Aoun had arrived at JFK Airport in New York, on the same day at 5:00 p.m. local time (12:00 midnight Beirut time), to represent Lebanon at the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
“The international pressures against Hezbollah are not new, and they are increasing. Some sides are seeking to square political accounts with Hezbollah after they failed to do so militarily, since it defeated Israel in 1993, then in 1996, and particularly in 2006,” President Aoun told the French Le Figaro magazine.
“Hezbollah’s popular base constitutes more than the third of the Lebanese people,” he underlined.
“Unfortunately, some foreign public opinion is determined to make Hezbollah an enemy,” he added.
